BEING a “TEAM PLAYER”:
The essence of being part of a performing choir is being committed to the group as an ESSENTIAL part of that group’s success in each performance. When we choose to be a part of a choral performing group, it is our personal responsibility to make and fulfill a commitment to the goals set in place for that choir and to be at all performances. Choosing to be a part of a “team” concept means shifting the emphasis from “I “ to “we”. Being a “team player” also involves each individual’s cooperation in giving his/her best to LISTEN, LEARN, and APPLY LEARNING during class so that he/she is able to give a personal best performance on a daily basis! Music is an ART; as such, it deserves our best focus, effort, and enthusiasm.
Occasionally we experience voice problems – sore throat, hoarseness, etc. It is your responsibility to (a) communicate your problem to the director BEFORE rehearsal begins, (b) to sign and date the sheet entitled “Can’t Sing Today,” and (c) to remain mentally involved in the class even though you cannot physically sing.
BE ATTENTIVE TO CONCERT DRESS ETIQUETTE AND CARE OF FORMAL ATTIRE.
BEING RESPECTFUL OF:
Arriving to class ON TIME, with assigned materials, and showing readiness to begin immediately. ON TIME minimally means that you are in the room when the bell rings. It is better to be in your seat and ready to sing when the bell rings.
Focusing attentively while the teacher or a designated person speaks.
Concert dates…making PRIOR arrangements (months in advance) with employers, family, and friends to guarantee your ability to fulfill your obligation to the choir. Concert dates are provided at LEAST THREE months in advance, and you are expected to arrange your schedule around those dates!
Turning in written work ON TIME, completed to the best of your ability, and appearing ON TIME for other scheduled practices.
Taking care of provided materials – music octavos, pencils, books, folders, carpet, stands, and all formal attire.
Others’ belongings and feelings
Following directions and communicating with the director.
