Congratulations to the HS Wrestlers for placing 2nd in the Kewanee Invite as a team this weekend.
Individual placements were: 1st place: Colton and Billy Tay, 2nd place Michael Marmy and Coby Windle, 3rd place Will Campbell, 4th place Cody Sutter and Darren Reinagle, 5th place Ethan Wissmiller and 6th place Cole Evans. This is Ken Stoltz, James Benefiel, and Joe Bane. James is the winner of this year's Voice of Democracy speech contest; Ken and Joe are members of the local VFW chapter. James's speech will advance to the district competition in January. This year's topic was Why My Vote Matters.
Ridgeview High School’s Annual Food Drive was HUGE SUCCESS! On Friday December 14th, the Ridgeview High School students ended the Annual Food Drive with the Winter Wonder Can competition. Each of our mentoring classes have been preparing since before Thanksgiving to compete in this year’s event. We had 21 classes build a Winter Wonder Can Display with the items they donated for the Colfax Food Pantry. This year the students demolished last years’ item total by over 2100 items. They collected 5409 items this year. We would like to thank all that helped donate to this year’s food drive . The winners of the Contest were as follows: Most items from a High School Class : Mr. Owsley ( 304 items) Most items from Junior High Class: Mr. Ruiz ( 844 items) Best Creativity in building High School : Mr. Leinweber Best Creativity in building Junior High: Mrs. Kennedy Best Over All: Mr. Ruiz Final Projects: Under Construction: Ridgeview Board of Education announced Tuesday evening that they have voted unanimously to hire Mr. Erik Young as the new Superintendent of Ridgeview CUSD #19. Mr. Young was selected from a nationwide poll of many qualified candidates. Mr. Young is looking forward to leading the Ridgeview district of around 600 students from the eastern McLean County towns of Anchor, Arrowsmith, Colfax, Cooksville and Saybrook. Mr. Young was raised close to our school district and has worked in rural school districts his entire career. He has an understanding of the values important to the communities serving our districts. Ridgeview School Board and staff are pleased to welcome Mr. Young and look forward to working with him.
Mr. Young will begin his new position July 1, 2019. Mr. Young is originally from Fairbury, Illinois so he and his family are excited to relocate back to the area to live and work in our excellent school and community. Mr. Young is currently the principal at Sullivan High School in Sullivan, Illinois. Before promotion to the principal position he was Middle School and High School Assistant Principal from 2009-2013. He has classroom experience as Middle School and High School teacher at Riverton CUSD #14 from 2003-2009. Mr. Young received his Bachelors in Health/Business Administration, Master’s in Education Administration and a Superintendent’s license from Eastern Illinois University. Mr. Young will replace interim Superintendent Dr. Steve Epperson. The Ridgeview community is very thankful to Dr. Epperson, a retired Superintendent who stepped in to lead the district for the 2018-2019 school year. Congratulations to the 8th grade girls for their win over Oglesby-Washington ! They are headed to the State Tournament. They play Saturday at 1:00 in Havanah vs Mendon Unity. If they win - they will play again at 6:30. Good luck girls!
