Miss Sturm's 8th grade Physical Science class completed the Mannequin Challenge.
On Thursday during the mentoring class period we hosted a “financial speaker series” for all of our junior and senior high students. Students were able to pick from sessions on topics such as: insurance, checking/savings accounts, careers in banking, budgeting your money, and credit score/applying for a loan. We were blessed to have speakers from the People’s State Bank of Colfax, Mid-Illini Credit Union, and Miller Insurance Agency donate their time and expertise to our students. Thank you to all these community members for sharing this important information with us!
Students in Mr. Ruiz's middle school science class started the year off strong with inquiry week. Inquiry week had students learning and working together, through experimentation, to complete a given task. Students started the week off with the "Marshmallow Challenge." Using only a meter of tape, a meter of string, 20 pieces of spaghetti, and a marshmallow, students worked to build the tallest tower they could with the marshmallow on top. On the second day, students worked together to design a tool that could pick up and stack cups in a tower. The catch, they could never touch the cups with their hands. The third day brought with it a teambuilding challenge. Students worked to transport a marble around in a circle and into a cup using only a foot long piece of track. If the marble was ever dropped or touched, they started back at the beginning. Inquiry week concluded with boat building. Students had 15 minutes to design a boat out of cardboard, aluminum foil, tape, and a cup that could hold the most mass. One boat held 395 grams before sinking!
As we begin our first year with 1:1 Chromebooks, we are happy to see the students ability and sucess utilizing technology in the classroom. We are grateful to work in a district that can provide Chromebooks for every student. These devices better prepare children to succeed in a competitive technological world, and they make learning fun!
Join us on Wednesday, August 24 at 6:00pm in the HS Gym for an informational presentation regarding Ridgeview’s 1:1 Technology initiative. Chromebooks will be issued to students that evening provided a parent is present and the Chromebook Agreement is signed.
Please take time to read the Technology 1:1 Parent/Student Handbook and sign the Agreement, both linked below. Agreements will be available during the presentation as well.
View/Print Technology Handbook here.
Print Technology Agreement Here.
The presentation and issuing of Chromebooks to students should take no longer than 1.5 hours.
If you are unable to attend the presentation on August 24, please contact your school's office to make other arrangements.
