Veterans Day Breakfast
Ridgeview's NHS and FFA would like to honor those who have served our country by inviting veterans and their spouses to a breakfast on Friday, November 10, 2017. The breakfast will be held at Ridgeview in the cafeteria (APR); It will begin at 8:15 a.m. and will conclude at 9:15 a.m. Thank you-veterans for your service. We hope to see you there! ![]() Mrs. Schultz takes Ridgeview National Honor Society and Student Council Members to 5 Points Theater, in Washington, IL. Our students attended a conference, with keynote speaker Mike Smith, from 8:30am-12pm on school climate, making connections with peers and adults, and building character of students inside and outside the classroom. After the Jostens Renaissance conference, our students stayed for a separate conference with all students in the HOIC on IHSA Sportsmanship. They heard briefly again from Mike Smith and Steve Reschke, the President of the HOIC Executive Board. Mr. Reschke also addressed the students on relative topics to sportsmanship within our conference. For over 25 years, Jostens has partnered with educators to renew school climate and culture through Jostens Renaissance® Education. Thousands of schools across North America are proud to call themselves “Jostens Renaissance” schools, sharing a sense of pride that is reflected in the results seen in improved academic performance, behavior, student engagement, and overall school spirit. These 18 Ridgeview students had the opportunity to listen to Mike Smith talk about focusing on the following tenets: building the character of students inside and outside the classroom; enhance and grow connections with peers, parents, experts, and all stakeholders; and create a culture of celebration of all achievements to inspire success for the future.
Who is Mike Smith? From his humble beginnings in Imperial, NE, Mike has since founded two non-profits and influenced hundreds of thousands of youth in schools nationwide. Mike lives his life as a “professional teenager” that doubles as a youth motivational speaker and action sports personality. While other professional speakers struggle to remain current, Mike stays relevant by talking about what he’s doing, not what he’s done. For more information on what Jostens Renaissance is about please visit https://www.jostensrenaissance.com Huge thanks to everyone who recruited, donated, volunteered and made delicious food for the Blood Drive yesterday. 89 units of blood were collected--a record! 31 high school students donated---also a record number! Way to go Mustangs! Thank you to all of those who donated to the National Honor Society's Toy Drive this month.
NHS members dropped off all toys to the Home Sweet Home Ministries on Friday. The Ridgeview High School National Honor Society will be running a gently used toy drive for the holidays. Beginning Wed, November 18 – Friday, December 4, you may bring in your old toys to the main hallway at the beginning of the day. All toys will be donated to the Home Sweet Home Ministries. Rummage through the playthings of your youth, clean out the basement, and, most importantly, do a good deed during the holiday season. Contact Mr. Snell with any questions. November 18 - December 4
