On Wednesday, March 16th, in the High School gym, the Ridgeview Student Council and National Honor Society will be putting on their 7th annual Red Cross Blood Drive.
The blood drive will be in honor of Carly, an 8 year old student in the Ridgeview School District. Carly was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma on November 15, 2015. She has already needed multiple blood and platelet transfusions and may require more in the future. Come out and support the blood drive and be a hero to someone like Carly.
Appointments are available from 11:00AM to 5:00PM. To schedule an appointment go to redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code: 0405636 or contact any Ridgeview student. Our goal is to have 100 units of blood donated because every unit saves 3 lives! Free & FUN childcare is available during the drive.
ONLINE ORDERING AVAILABLE NOW - NOVEMBER 3. Click here to order online.
Update: Mrs. Durfee completes marathon with a time of 3:51:41
Ridgeview’s own, Tammy Durfee, will be participating in the 119th Annual Boston Marathon! To prepare for her Boston debut, Tammy began focused training in December 2014, running over 500 miles from then to now. Along the way, Tammy successfully ran in wintry, sub-zero temperatures; ran over 20 miles inside ISU’s Horton Fieldhouse; and ran over 50 miles in a single week. Throughout her training, she also wore out several pairs of running shoes, logging many of the runs in the dark morning hours before school.
Tammy ran her first marathon in 2013, completing the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon in a Boston qualifying time of 3 hours 40 minutes and 58 seconds. In 2014 she successfully completed the Quad Cities marathon and earned an age group award at the Mahomet half-marathon on a muggy, rainy day. Tammy has also earned age group awards at the Springfield half-marathon, the Canal Connection 10K, and the Lake Run Club Park to Park 5 miler.
The Boston Marathon is always held on Patriot’s day, a holiday in Massachusetts. This year’s races will be held on April 20, with the first wave of runners beginning at 10:00 am and Tammy being part of the 3rd (Blue) wave, starting at 10:50 am. From the start in Hopkinton, MA, Tammy will run 26.2 miles to finish in downtown Boston, MA. Along the way, runners will pass the cheering crowds at the all-women’s college at Wellesley, Heartbreak Hill, Boston College, and Kenmore Plaza to finish on Boylston street, the site of the 2013 bombings.
Tammy’s bib number is 20728. To follow her on race day, tune in online to the Boston Athletic Association website:
