Congratulations to the 2016 WYSE Team! Last Friday, the team placed 3rd overall with the following individual medalists:
James Coenhour placed 3rd in computer science and 3rd in physics.
McKenzie Dieken placed 2nd in biology.
Caleb Hayes placed 3rd in English.
Katelyn Plue placed 3rd in math.
Addie Ramirez placed 1st in English and 2nd in computer science.
Carley Zimmerman placed 3rd in chemistry.
On a special note, Addie Ramirez placed 2nd in English over all the schools competing at Heartland, including Tri-Valley, Central Catholic, Bloomington HS, and U-High. She received special recognition, as well as a certificate good for a free college class at Heartland.
Keegan Behnke placed 2nd in English over all the schools competing at Heartland on the JV team.
Mackenzie Dieken and Addie Ramirez will move on to sectionals due to their 2nd and 1st place finishes.
8th grade English students recently discussed abstract concepts such as beauty, truth, and success. The students picked one and wrote a narrative exploring how they defined the concept versus how society defined it. Here are some of the highlights!
If you were born the opposite sex, what would your name have been?
Bruce Jenner, just kidding. Jimmy Carter because he is a great example of a humanitarian.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
I already have a superpower, teaching. My superpower would be to spread joy and kindness around the world. (Put a song in everyone’s heart)
If you were not a teacher, what would you be?
If I were not a teacher, I would either own a Spirit of Halloween Store or run a haunted house.
What is your teacher’s pet? Literally, do you have any pets?
We have several pets in the Borton household. We have the following: Nora, a springer; glow, a dark fish; a frog; and a sugar glider named Terin.
What’s your favorite store?
My favorite store is, The Spirit of Halloween.
What’s your perfect Pizza?
My perfect pizza is one I don’t have to make. Seriously, I love ham and mushrooms.
Predict how you will die.
I will die with a smile on my face and a song in my heart.
What was your first job?
My first job was working in Research and Development at Funks G Hybrids.
Harley Weidner and Luke Ward
Harley is an active member of FFA, the varsity basketball team, and the varsity softball team. Harley spent a great deal of extra time working on the winter sports program. She laid it out, input rosters and pictures, and proofread the final copy. Harley played the lead role in the completing this project.
Luke is the senior class vice president and is a prospectus member of the National Honor Society. Luke had a strong December for the varsity basketball team. Luke is a team leader is scoring and three point percentage. Luke was selected to the Monticello Holiday Hoopla All-Tournament Team.
