Perry Weather

Colfax, IL– Ridgeview CUSD 19 is proud to announce the installation of a state-of-the-art Perry Weather monitoring and warning system within the school campus. The new weather station is equipped with a siren, strobe lights, and speakers that provide coverage across the entire school grounds and athletic fields. This initiative aims to ensure the safety and well-being of their students and community.

The new Perry Weather system simplifies and automates weather-safety protocols, ensuring consistent, timely responses to severe weather and lightning. The weather alert station includes a strobe lights and speakers to alert about severe weather risks via light and sound.

When a lightning strike is detected within 10 miles of the school, the system will be activated with an audible and visual alert. This will automatically put all outdoor activities into a 30 minute delay. This means that 30 minutes must pass without any additional lightning strikes within 10 miles for the activity to resume.

Those in the vicinity of the school will hear the following alerts:

  • (1) 10 second siren blast = Lightning strike(s) within 10 miles of the school

  • (3) 5-second siren blasts = All Clear

  • A strobe light on the system will also flash during the delay.

  • The siren will NOT sound if additional lightning strikes occur during the 30 minute delay. However, the 30 minute countdown will reset.

  • The system will be active 24/7, however, the siren will only sound from 8 am to 9 pm.

With the Perry Weather system, Ridgeview CUSD 19 can now ensure a unified and automated approach to weather safety, removing the burden of decision-making from individuals. View our local data on our website at www.ridgeview19.org.
