Update

Good Afternoon,

The last two weeks have been very productive and I wanted to provide you with some updates. School has started and so far everything has gone very smoothly. Students and staff have transitioned well to the temporary classrooms. Overall, work in the basement has been steadily progressing and we are now starting to shift to a new phase of the project.

Phase 2, which has been mostly cleaning and removal of damaged material, is set to be completed this week. This leads us to Phase 2.5 - asbestos abatement. When the water entered the basement mechanical room, there was asbestos insulation on the piping that became saturated in water. The water also infiltrated under floor tile and caused some of the tile to separate from the glue. Although the tile does not contain asbestos, the glue underneath does. In the current state, there is not a risk. However, it is anticipated both of these will deteriorate over time, leading to the potential for risk in the future. It is advised we remove the impacted materials now, rather than wait. The removal work will be completely contained and take place in the evening hours. The tentative start date for this portion is September 29th and will take approximately 2 weeks to complete.

Over the next few weeks we are anticipating starting Phase 3 - Reconstruction. This phase will mainly consist of replacing and patching drywall that was removed due to water damage. We are hopeful this phase can be started and completed prior to the asbestos abatement starting.

Once these two phases are complete, we will need to do some finishing work on the floor and some minor reconstruction. After that, it will be time to start moving back into the basement. As we move through these next two phases, we will be able to gauge a more accurate completion date.

Through this transition, the elementary parking lot will continue to remain closed to parking. It will remain open for drop-off and pick-up purposes. We just ask that you continue to proceed cautiously through the lot.

Thank you yet again for your continued patience, understanding and support through this process. It is greatly appreciated!

Mr. Young
