Dear Parent or Guardian,

At Ridgeview C.U.S.D. #19, the safety and security of our students and staff is our highest priority.
Each year the district partners with the Colfax Police Department and other local agencies to continually review
and update our emergency response procedures. Ridgeview uses the “I Love You Guys” Standard
Response Protocol (SRP), which is endorsed and supported by many school districts and law enforcement
agencies across the country. The SRP provides a common, easy-to-understand language for students, staff,
and first responders in emergency situations. The SRP focuses on five specific actions: Hold, Secure,
Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. These actions allow everyone in the building to respond quickly, calmly,
and appropriately depending on the type of situation.

We are required by state law to conduct at least one law enforcement drill per school year that involves the
presence of law enforcement officials. This ensures that our students know their role during a potential threat.
During these drills, Ridgeview works in cooperation with the Colfax Police Department to provide a safe,
controlled opportunity for students to practice emergency procedures.

Our drill this year is scheduled for Thursday, September 4, 2025, at around 8:25 a.m. All students
(Elementary, Junior High, and High School) will practice the Lockdown portion, and we will have discussions
about the Evacuation procedures in a calm and orderly fashion. Police officers and school administrators will
walk through the building to ensure that staff and students are implementing the appropriate procedures.
Portions of the drill will require students to sit quietly out of sight (away from windows and doors), while other
portions will involve discussing evacuation procedures.

We hope that we will never have to use these procedures in a real-life situation, but it is important for all staff
and students to understand the steps in place to keep everyone safe at school. Parents and guardians have
the opportunity to exempt their child from participating in this drill if they wish. If you would like your child to opt
out, please contact your child’s school office by Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
Thank you for your support in helping us provide a safe learning environment for all students.

Sincerely,

Erik Young
Superintendent
